What is Plaque 2?
Plaque 2 is an inflammatory marker that measures the presence of a vascular specific inflammatory substance (lipo-protein phospholipase A/2) that is known to advance the development of vessel plaque which can rupture causing the formation of a vessel clogging blood clot (68% of vessel clogging events are caused by this mechanism of rupture and clot formation).
At the Triana Prevention Center we measure Plaque 2 to help assess patients risk of heart attack and stroke and to gauge the need for more or less aggressive treatment.
Research is being done at major centers to develop an antibody much like an injectable antitoxin to potentially immunize patients against the harmful clinical effects of plaque 2.
